Posterior atlantoaxial membrane

The posterior atlantoaxial membrane is a thin fibrous structure that transverses the gap between the atlas (C1) and axis (C2), stretching between the posterior arch of the atlas and the laminae of the axis. It lines the posterior wall of the vertebral canal. Laterally, it blends with the atlantoaxial joint capsules.
