The internal jugular vein is the largest vein of the neck. It arises at the level of the jugular foramen as a direct continuation of the sigmoid sinus. The initial part of the internal jugular vein is dilated and called the superior bulb. The left internal jugular vein is usually slightly smaller than the right vein.
