As mentioned in the previous slide, the visceral surface communicates with adjacent organs. The sites where this surface connects with other anatomical structures can be recognized as various impressions:

Esophageal impression - found on the upper posterior aspect of the visceral surface of the left lobe; the abdominal part of the esophagus leaves this impression;
Gastric impression - a relatively large impression that covers most of the visceral surface of the left lobe; it is the site where the fundus of the stomach connects with the liver;
Pyloric impression - found on the lower aspect of the quadrate lobe anterior to the porta hepatis; this impression is formed by the pylorus of the stomach;
Colic impression for the transverse colon - situated on the quadrate lobe anterior and inferior to the pyloric impression; it is found close to the inferior border of the liver;
Duodenal impression - found on the right lobe next to the gallbladder fossa; this impression is left by the descending part of the duodenum;
Renal impression - large impression formed at the central aspect of the visceral surface of the right lobe;
Suprarenal impression - found superior to the renal impression on the right lobe; it is left by the right adrenal (suprarenal) gland;
Colic impression for the right colic flexure - situated on the right lobe inferior to the duodenal and renal impressions and close to the inferior border of the liver.
