Superior transverse scapular ligament

The superior transverse scapular ligament stretches above the suprascapular notch of the scapula, transforming it into a foramen or opening. The suprascapular foramen serves for the passage of the suprascapular nerve.

The ligament is attached to the coracoid process of the scapula, and at its other end - to the medial edge of the suprascapular notch - also known as the scapular notch.

Sometimes the superior transverse scapular ligament becomes ossified.
