Start FREE trial now Up to 50% of people may have an additional pyramidal lobe. It is a vestigial structure and a remnant of the embryonic thyroglossal duct. The pyramidal lobe appears as a finger-like projection that extends toward the hyoid bone in the superior direction from the isthmus. Usually, it arises more from the left side of the gland, and sometimes two pyramidal lobes can also be present.
