The second rib is thinner and significantly longer than the first rib. This rib is more similar to a typical rib than the first rib. Its head has two demi-facets that articulate with the first thoracic (T1, superior vertebra) and the second thoracic (T2, corresponding vertebra) vertebrae. Also, the second rib has a tubercle and costal groove.
