The second rib is thinner and significantly longer than the first rib. This rib is more similar to a typical rib than the first rib. Its head has two articular demi-facets that articulate with the first thoracic vertebra (T1, superior vertebra) and the second thoracic vertebra (T2, corresponding vertebra). Also, the second rib has a tubercle and costal groove.
