The spinal venous system contains valveless spinal veins that surround the spinal cord and, like the arteries, can also be divided into longitudinal veins and segmental veins. Because these veins do not contain valves, the spinal venous drainage is induced by gravity, body position, and intrathoracic and intra-abdominal pressures.
