Besides the nuclei, the gray matter of the spinal cord can also be divided into ten zones called the Rexed's laminae (RL) that contain previously described nuclei. The Rexed's laminae are organized into layers according to the function and structure of the nuclei. The distribution of these layers in the gray matter looks like a lamination pattern.
