Veins of lower limb

The veins draining the lower limb can be divided into two groups - the superficial and deep veins.

There are many anastomoses between the superficial and deep veins of the lower limbs, called the communicating veins.

The major deep veins of the lower limb continue as the pelvic veins, which eventually flow into the inferior vena cava that carries the collected venous blood to the heart.
