Subcostal muscles

The subcostal muscles are intrinsic thoracic muscles located on the inner surface of the posterior thoracic cage, stretching across two or three intercostal spaces. The fibers of the subcostal muscles pass in the same direction as the innermost intercostal muscles. These muscles are usually well-developed only in the lower part of the thorax.
