The main
structures forming the
pelvic floor
are the following:
Levator ani muslces
- the most prominent component consisting of three muscles (
puborectalis muscle
,
pubococcygeus muscle
,
iliococcygeus muscle
);
Coccygeus muscle
- it is also called the
ischiococcygeus muscle
; posterior, smaller component of the pelvic floor;
Connective tissue structures
, including fasciae that cover the mentioned pelvic floor muscles.
