The omentum refers to a sheet-like fatty tissue layer created by folds of the peritoneum that is attached to the stomach and other abdominal organs. It encloses nerves, blood vessels, and lymphatics and contains fatty and connective tissue. Besides fat storage, the omentum is also known to have an important role in immune regulation and tissue regeneration processes.
