The inferior oblique muscle is the only extraocular muscle arising at the anterior aspect of the bony orbit. The muscle travels from the medial aspect of the orbital floor to the inferolateral aspect of the eyeball. Overall, it courses inferiorly and posteriorly from its origin site, passing between the inferior rectus muscle and the orbital floor.
