Psoas minor muscle

The psoas minor is a long, slim skeletal muscle lying anterior to the psoas major muscle. The psoas minor, along with the iliopsoas, belongs also to the anterior group of the pelvic muscles.


 

Origin: lateral surface of the twelfth thoracic (T12) and first lumbar (L1) vertebral bodies.

Insertion: iliopubic eminence and pectineal line.

Action: contributes to stabilization of the pelvis and hip joint, aids in flexion of the trunk.

Innervation: muscular branches of the lumbar plexus, arising from the anterior ramus of the spinal nerve L1.

Blood supply: lumbar arteries, lumbar branch of the iliolumbar artery.
