Levator veli palatini muscle

The levator veli palatini is a paired palatal muscle that lies laterally to the choanae and is responsible for the elevation of the soft palate. The muscle passes inferiorly towards the soft palate from the origin site to attach to the palatine aponeurosis and blend with the contralateral muscle fibers. It goes medially to the upper part of the superior pharyngeal constrictor and anterior to the salpingopharyngeus muscle.
