Dental notation systems (overview)
Dentists all over the world use various teeth numbering systems called the dental notation systems to identify the teeth of their patients, and to create descriptions and write down information about a specific tooth.
There are several dental notation systems used worldwide. The most commonly internationally used system is the ISO-3950 system. Besides the ISO system, the best known and most widely used are two more:
The Universal Tooth Numbering System is primarily used in the USA, while dentists in the UK prefer the Palmer notation system.
