The coccygeal vertebrae fuse together in a single triangular bone called the coccyx, which forms the lower part of the spine. The vertebrae are in variable number, usually three to four. The coccyx articulates with the inferior end of the sacrum, and is characterized by its shape and small size. It lacks vertebral arches and thus a vertebral canal.
